The Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts (SICA) in Long Branch has brought something new and inspiring to New Jersey's North Shore area. Sculptoure
is an urban sculpture park they have created throughout the downtown area of the city of Long Branch, Ocean Avenue, the boardwalk, and Pier Village.
The artists participating in this event were solicited nationwide to compete for the opportunity to have their work displayed in these scenic areas of Long Branch. Twenty-three artists have had their work placed in easily accessible outdoor locations.
may broaden your perception of what sculpture is and the locations themselves can be beautiful and some unexpected. Some are obvious but others are not. They might be on a wall, tucked into an alley, on a roof, or in a tree. It's fun and often surprising just to find the works of art.
The sculpture park of Sculptoure
is in a fairly compact area of downtown Long Branch. You can start at SICA on Third Avenue and tour down Broadway to Ocean Avenue, the Boardwalk, and Pier Village. Parking is available around the areas where the works of art are located but it's also a relatively easy walk or bike ride, too. You might just feel more connected to the landscape and the art on foot or bike. So get out there and participate in this very cool event. You'll broaden your horizons and boost your hip factor.
runs from May through October. Maps showing the locations of the artwork, and other information about Sculptoure and the artists, are available at the SICA web site www.sica.org
